Alarm system & monitoring
Who do I call to schedule service for my system?
Call Red Safety at 888-557-5167.
What happens when I press the panic or fire button on my touchpad?
Hold the panic or fire button for 1 to 3 seconds and an alarm is sent to the monitoring center, and emergency services are dispatched immediately. An alarm sent this way can't be canceled.
My alarm went off by accident and I entered my code. Why didn't anyone call?
The system gives you a short delay to disarm before it sends a signal. Entering your code in time cancels the signal and prevents a false alarm.
Why does my keypad say "not ready"?
The system can't arm yet. Usually a door or window isn't fully closed, a motion detector is sensing movement, or a previous alarm hasn't been cleared from memory. Fix that, and it will arm.
Can you turn my system off from your office?
No. Your system is independent and can only be turned off at your control panel or in your app.
Is my system communicating correctly?
Systems can lose communication if the phone or internet service they use is down, or if equipment isn't working properly. Call us and we'll check it.
Why is my motion sensor giving false alarms?
Heat sources, balloons, blinds and curtains can trigger motion detectors, as can poor placement. If it keeps happening, a technician can adjust or relocate the sensor.
How do I change the people on my call list?
Call central dispatch at 800-597-7203 with your passcode ready. Make sure everyone on your list knows what to do if we call them.
What are the passcode and master code for?
Your passcode is a word or phrase that verifies your identity when an alarm is triggered or when you talk to us about your account. Your master code is the 4-digit code that arms and disarms your panel. We will never ask for it over the phone.
Does my system support a duress code?
Yes. A duress code disarms the system while silently alerting the monitoring center that you're under threat. Call us to set one up.
Can I have multiple user codes?
Yes. You can assign each user their own code from the panel or the Alarm.com app. Call us or check your manual for step-by-step help.
If I lose power, will my alarm still work?
Yes. A backup battery keeps your system running for several hours, and a low-battery signal is sent to the monitoring center so you can be notified.
What if my technician doesn't show up as scheduled?
Our technicians aim to arrive on time. If we miss an appointment and haven't contacted you, call 888-557-5167 and a service dispatcher will help right away.
Do I need an alarm permit?
Many cities and counties require one, and it's the customer's responsibility to get it, keep it current and give us the permit number and expiration date. Without a valid permit, police may not respond to a burglar alarm and you may be fined. Check your local police department's website.
If I move, do I have to pay for a new system?
Every home customer gets one free move. Call before you move and we'll schedule the breakdown and reinstall.
Fire safety
How do I read fire extinguisher ratings?
Class A is for wood, paper, cloth, rubber and some plastics. Class B is for grease, oil, gasoline and other flammable liquids. Class C is for live electrical equipment. The number in front of the letter tells you the size of fire it can handle. The wrong extinguisher can make things worse, so ask us which you need.
How do I use a fire extinguisher?
Remember PASS: Pull the pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, Sweep side to side.
How long do smoke and CO alarms last?
Replace smoke alarms every 10 years. Carbon monoxide and combination smoke/CO alarms should be replaced every 5 to 7 years. Replace any alarm right away if it isn't working properly.
What should I do when the carbon monoxide alarm sounds?
Silence the alarm, get everyone to fresh air, and count heads. Call 911 or the fire department. Don't go back in until responders arrive, the building is aired out, and the alarm is back to normal.
CPR classes
How long are the classes?
CPR takes about 2 hours. CPR and First Aid together take about 3 hours.
When do I get my certification?
Your instructor gives it to you on site.
How many students do I need for a private class?
A minimum of 10. Maximum class size depends on the location. Email us for details.
Is the certification valid for employment?
Our classes meet Department of Health and ILCOR requirements and are taught to the same standard as the American Heart Association. You receive a Red Safety certificate.
